Theseus meeting in Gdansk

 

On the 24th – 26th of May 2011, the Institute of Hydro-Engineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IBW PAN) organized the fourth plenary Theseus meeting in Gdańsk (Poland). The meeting, headed by Theseus coordinator Barbara Zanuttigh, was attended by one hundred representatives of the project partners including Project Officer Mr. Michel Schouppe and the Polish End Users from the Maritime Office in Gdynia, Gdańsk’s Maritime Institute and the Regional Water Management Board in Gdańsk. In view of the first Activity report, the project progress of the first 18 months was evaluated. Current states of analysis of each study site were disclosed during the first day. They revealed that significant progress was achieved in all study sites during the past 6 months. In addition, the preliminary version of the Decision Support System developed in Theseus was presented and discussed.

 

 

 

 

The second day combined work group discussions with a half-day technical visit to the Hel Peninsula study site. Here, the participants had the opportunity to investigate applied protection measures such as seawalls, dikes, groynes, artificial dunes and beaches. Before the day was concluded by a dinner in the nineteenth century castle of Rzucewo, a short visit to the grey seal breeding and rehabilitating research centre of the Hel marine Station was organized . On the final day, before ending this fruitful meeting, the group discussions were summarized and the official Partner Assembly convened.
